As a reader, I'm situated in a place were reading comes as a need of information. I rarely read for entertainment unless on long plane rides or waiting somewhere with nothing else to do. Reading, for me, is more of a tool to find out something I don't know.
I guess the exception, or middle ground would be when I read the newspaper. Or when I find what I'm learning about to be entertaining, which is usually the case. When reading the newspaper I'm learning about current events, which may be useful and viewed as means of learning, however I also seem to only read articles I'm interested in the first place. For instance, I tend to skip past the sports section and go right to the arts.
I'm probably getting into a lot of fine lines and one could argue what learning and being entertained are not mutually exclusive ideas. But what I am saying is that I won't be reading the Scarlett Letter for fun, or with out being told to do so for a grade. Couldn't tell you why, I'd just rather be doing something else.
