Field Trip Proposal

When we go on our trip, I'd like to do some blind contour drawings. Students would be asked to break up pairs and draw portraits of one-another on paper, with pencils, pens, whatever, without looking.

It's interesting and fun to see how the eye connects with the hand in a visual manner. It doesn't require any previous artist background. In fact, blind contour drawing is often used a device to train the eye for early "artist". It's not about how well you draw. The result is an interesting image, in this case a portrait that demonstrates the connection between what you're seeing and how the hand will move in relation. It's also fun to color the portraits after the drawing is completed.

The act of drawing someone else, especially as they're drawing you can be particularity engaging. The meditative act drawing slowly, patiently can be relaxing beneficial.
